We are typically 60% print and 40% Film/video/TV commercial.
Below are the pros and Cons of coming here (Yes, we will state those few cons here. We don't like surprises!)
THE PROS
- You can do a lot with 50 acres out in the country. You can shoot the Middle of nowhere countryside with no manmade stuff in sight. But you can also shoot at one of the houses with a contemporary rural setting. If you want a true country living vibe, we can use the barn areas.
- 30 minutes from town. Yes, I know, Simi Valley seems like it's forever away! Nope, it's really not. We are inside the studio zone (29 miles from Fairfax and Beverly Blvd)
- 3 Houses - 3 Kitchens! Often a production needs several interiors to serve as multiple locations. We can give you three completely different looks all at the same location. No need to move the company. Huge time and cost savings.
- 2800 sqft Basecamp. This is actually a huge benefit. Using this space saves on MOHO's, tents, and all the other things you need to bring for a location shoot. Even if we are shooting up in the hills, we just head back down for a wardrobe change, lunch, etc. This will make a producer's life so much easier. Just bring some chairs and you are all set.
- The basecamp house can also be dressed to your heart's desire. Turn this mostly vacant house into your main character's place and don't worry about breaking the owner's stuff.
- We can provide parking for 30-40 cars, perhaps more.
- No immediate neighbors. Night shoots are far easier than in town! Even if you just need night interior shots, and don't need the largess of the property, with no neighbors you don't have to stress so much.
- This place has a very chill vibe - meaning calm and collected, even serene. By the end of the day even the most stressed producer will find herself smiling and having fun.
- There are 60 horses on site. While these are not Hollywood-trained horses, we use them often, sometimes as background and sometimes in principle photography. We don't really have horses that we'd throw a non-rider on his back and let him go... but if you just need to sit on top and look cool, we have that covered. Otherwise we have outsource vendors we can put you in touch with.
A few mentionable CONS
- The back roads are somewhat rough, more so in the winter. 350 days a year normal trucks/SUV's can navigate the roads just fine, but after a good rain it gets muddy and takes a day or two to dry up. We have a small gator which will handle a small shoot, but with something larger, we'd need to rent some Gators/Mules during those few muddy days. (We have a great vendor for that.)
- Also regarding the roads. There are a few tight turns so we can't get trailer rigs up top. Box trucks may be okay, but most productions prefer to transfer gear into our 4x4 dually. This works just fine.
- Bathrooms. The Basecamp house has 3 bathrooms - and can typically be used by your VIP, however for cast/crew larger than 12-15 people we do need to rent a bathroom. We have an account with Andy Gump and will take care of that if you'd like us to handle logistics. A nice Executive washroom (running water and flush toilet) run $250 per day.
